Framed Canvas vs. Wrapped Canvas vs. Poster: What You Actually Get
By: Canvora | October 2026
The image may be the same, but the object is not. A rolled poster, stretched canvas, and framed canvas have different surfaces, edges, depths, and hanging requirements. Choosing among them is less about which format is universally best and more about how you want the piece to sit in the room.
The selected product variant is always the final specification. Available media, sizes, profiles, and frame colors vary by artwork, so confirm the options shown on the product page before checkout.
Rolled poster
A poster is the lightest and most flexible format. Canvora poster options may include fine-art paper at 285–290 g/m² by provider, semi-gloss paper at 180–230 g/m², or matte paper at 200 g/m². The finish and exact paper choice are the ones named by the selected variant.
Posters are shipped unframed. That makes them useful when you already have a frame, want to choose glazing locally, or prefer a narrow profile. It also means the frame, mat, backing, and hanging hardware are not included with the rolled print. Frame behind glazing when practical and handle the paper by its edges.
A quiet botanical image such as Forest Watercolor can take on a crisp, graphic quality as a poster. Cosmic Goddess Silhouette can feel more like a collected print when paired with a simple frame and generous mat.
Stretched or wrapped canvas
Stretched canvas is printed on a cotton/polyester canvas and mounted over responsibly sourced pine. It arrives as a dimensional object rather than a sheet of paper. The 0.75-inch canvas profile is 333 g/m². The 1.25-inch profiles include soft rubber back-corner dots. Back hanging is included.
The wrapped edge lets the artwork stand on its own without an outer frame. It suits rooms where you want visual depth but not another decorative border. Because the image surface remains exposed, care is simple and dry: dust gently with a clean microfiber cloth, avoid sprays, and keep the piece away from sustained direct sunlight, high humidity, and heat.
Landscapes such as Tropical Palm Tree benefit from that depth because the horizon reads as a single, uninterrupted field. A restrained image such as White Tree Silhouette can also use the canvas edge as part of its quiet presence.
Framed canvas
Framed canvas begins with a cotton/polyester canvas carrying a proprietary print coating. It is then presented in a pinewood outer frame. Sawtooth hanging hardware is attached.
This format keeps the texture and depth of canvas while adding a defined border. The narrow space between the canvas and outer frame gives the work a finished, architectural line without placing glass over the printed surface. It is often a good fit when nearby furniture or trim already establishes a strong wood or color tone.
The frame does not turn canvas into a paper print, and it does not change the care requirements of the exposed image. Dust the canvas and frame gently with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Do not spray cleaner or water onto the printed surface.
How to choose
Choose a poster when you want the lowest-profile object, already own a frame, or want control over mat and glazing. Choose stretched canvas when you want a ready-to-hang piece with a clean wrapped edge. Choose framed canvas when you want canvas texture plus a distinct outer line.
Then check the details that belong to the exact variant: finished dimensions, profile depth, paper or canvas specification, frame color, and what hanging hardware is included. The medium changes the physical object; the product page tells you precisely which version you are ordering.
